Retaining Wall and Concrete Pad Done Right in Apple Valley

This backyard had a real problem - a sloped area under a second-story deck with no usable surface and nothing holding the grade in check. The homeowner needed two things: a solid retaining wall to manage the hillside and a concrete pad to actually make the space work. That's exactly what we delivered.

The retaining wall wraps around the lower yard and does the heavy lifting - literally. Stacked block construction keeps the soil and plantings in place while giving the space a clean, finished edge. The angled section on the left corner is where things got interesting. Matching the wall to that angle without it looking off took careful planning and precise block placement. That's the kind of detail that separates a clean job from a sloppy one.

The concrete pad ties it all together. It gave this under-deck area a real floor - flat, level, and ready to use. What was likely an awkward, muddy patch is now a fully functional outdoor hangout spot. Adirondack chairs, a picnic table, a grill - it's all sitting on something solid now.

When you're working in a tight space with a deck overhead, stairs to one side, and an existing slope to account for, there's no room for guessing. Every element has to fit together right. That's what good hardscaping looks like - not just laying block and pouring concrete, but thinking through how everything connects before the first shovel hits the ground.
